Today is the World naked gardening day. On this day, people on over the world get outside and do all gardening activities, weeding, digging, planting… without any clothes on.
According to Wikipedia, World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) was introduced in 2005 by Mark Storey, a Seattle resident. He started WNGD to help people to be confident with their body and to connect with nature. People of all shapes, size, and ages can participate in gardening. It’s fun, it doesn’t have to cost anything, and it reminds us of the biophilic connection with the nature. The annual event is on the first Saturday of May.
This event reminds me of the occasion I encountered the nudity the first times. It was in Germany. Maybe you think it sounds wrong when I say nudism is traditionally popular in Germany a country which is quite conservative, compared to some other European countries. But it’s true.
It was in Prerow, a very popular beach in the North of Germany, where we first saw the FKK sign among other ones. We were a bit confused about where to go then we figured it out that FKK should be related with something nudity because we saw nobody wearing clothes when we walked to the FKK sign. So what is FKK? It is Freikörperkultur (Free Body Culture).
Frankly, when I travelled to Germany, I was a bit shocked when bumping into FKK in a sauna, a park and at a camping by a lake. But nudism was particularly popular in East Germany where everybody was free to practice nudism and did so wherever possible.
So prepare yourself to not getting a shock when one day you are walking around a park in the centre of Berlin and front a scene of naked people enjoying their time on the green grass.
