Oslo - an unmakable dream

The most expected purpose of our trip around Europe three years ago was to visit Norway to see the aurora, the elks and experience fishing in famous fjords.

We were quite lucky to be able to hitchhike with two young Germans from Flensburg to the North of Denmark. Because we left Flensburg in the late afternoon, we camped one night at a rest stop in Denmark. Then the next morning, we took a ferry to the South of Norway to get to Oslo.

The ferry from Hirtshals, Denmark to Langesund, Norway took about 4 and a half hours. It was very comfortable. There was a large lounge with a sofa and a bar. In addition, they also had performances for children free of charge. You should pre-book ferry tickets online for a good price instead of buying at the place of departure.

We wanted from Oslo to gradually move up to Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Bodo and Tromso.

Oslo is a very interesting city with an architectural style interwoven with ancient and modern, but perhaps the creative modern look is more prominent.

In addition, the sculptures are also creative and creepily attractive.

To see Oslo from above, you can go to Akershus fortress or to the top of Grefsenkolle hill (overlooking the city's fjord) or Vettakollen hill (many beautiful city views). You can go hiking to Grefsenkolle and Vettakollen or you can also take a bus. The bus line going to Vettakollen is easier because it is a direct one.

We planned to stay in Oslo for just a day or two to visit the capital a little bit, but it kept raining all the time so we couldn't visit much. And after 4 days (2 days of gloomy weather, 2 days of waiting for the rain and wind to stop), we decided to leave Norway and go backward to the South because according to the weather forecast, a week later it would rain heavily with such strong wind. The opportunity to experience the fishing here was unsuccessful even though we bought a fishing rod in the large commercial center right at the border between Germany and Denmark.

I could not stand it and hated the winds of Oslo back then. But after living in this French region - Avignon and enduring the Mistral wind here, I would probably be more resistant if I have the opportunity to return to Norway again.

More information about Oslo can be found here.
