Alsace during festive season

Updated: Dec 30, 2019

When coming to Alsace, certainly that most people come to a busy and hurry Strasbourg or a poetic beautiful Colmar. But Alsace has more than that.

If you like streets with colorful houses decorated sparkling for Christmas season and filled with tourists, come to Riquewihr.

If you like tranquility, space for your own and simplicity, then go to Dambach la Ville. We chose an airbnb apartment to stay in this town during this Christmas holiday to avoid overcrowding and overpricing in big cities like Strasbourg or Colmar and we were very pleased with our choice. Despite the festive season, this small town had only a few tourists. The houses and street blocks were moderately and nicely decorated to be able to retain its authenticity. The village also had a chapel on the top of the hill with a beautiful view over the town. In the chapel, there was a room full of human bones. These were the bones of the former tombs collected around the chapel. The temple in the chapel was made of impressive wood.

If you can get up early, take this opportunity to drive around small towns on small roads, weaving through fields or hills. In the early morning, the mist was dim or flying indifferently which made everything look a bit fairy.

Or you can also visit Mont Saint Odile to enjoy the panorama. If the sky is clear, you can even see the Strasbourg church from here. You can also stay here because there are also hotels and restaurants here. In this place you can feel absolutely safe because the whole area is protected by handsome army soldiers.

If you are a car fan, then visit Mulhouse. There is a very special car museum, displaying 625 unique cars of the Schlumpf brothers. In addition to the car display area, the museum also has an animation area, a movie theater, interactive simulations, children's playground, shops and restaurants. Thanks to this visit, I was able to broaden my knowledge of unheard car brands and saw beautiful cars that have never been seen on the road. You can also go to Mulhouse old town to stroll through the church and Noel market. The market remains open after Christmas until the New Year.
